Virtual SCSEP 

The AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program provides opportunities for eligible individuals age 55 and over to obtain new employment knowledge, enhance their skills, and gain a competitive edge in today’s job market. The success of the AARP Foundation SCSEP adds directly to the economic vitality of the communities we serve by providing a source of dedicated, trained, and mature workers.

SCSEP Virtual Program Overview

The AARP Foundation SCSEP serves a number of communities throughout the United States through the Virtual SCSEP Program.

Virtual SCSEP is an online community and is currently offered only in the following locations:

Virtual SCSEP participants are placed in temporary part time training assignments with not-for-profit community organizations or with federal, state, county or city organizations, where they have an opportunity to sharpen and develop skills while searching for a permanent job.  While working in their temporary training assignments, participants work with the Project Director virtually via phone, email, and webinars to identify, apply for, and accept employment opportunities off of the SCSEP.

To be eligible for the virtual SCSEP, applicants must:

  • Age 55+
  • Reside within one of the above locations
  • Meet financial qualifications
  • Be unemployed
  • Must be interested in improving their employment opportunities

Virtual SCSEP Application Process

The AARP Foundation SCSEP Application is completed in 4 quick steps:

  • Step 1: Eligibility
  • Step 2: Suitability
  • Step 3: Orientation & Program Requirements
  • Step 4: Finalize Enrollment Process

Step 1: Eligibility

Begin by downloading, printing, and completing the Application Part 1: Eligibility. This Application may be completed in blue or black ink. Please print clearly.  When complete, submit the completed application to appropriate address listed on the right. You will be notified of your application status via email within 5 business days after your application is received.

Step 2: Suitability

If you are determined to be eligible for the program we will work with you to assess if the virtual program is suitable for you.  Specifically, we want to learn more about your work history, the type of job you are looking for, and what geographic areas of your community you are willing to work in.  You will be asked to download, print, complete and submit the Application Part 2: Suitability.  Again, you will be notified of your application status via email within 5 business days after receipt of the paperwork.

Step 3: SCSEP Orientation Video Series

After you have been notified that you are eligible & suitable for AARP Foundation SCSEP, you will need to learn the full details about the program including what will be expected of you as a participant and what you should expect from the Virtual SCSEP.  Specifically, view the SCSEP Orientation Video Series, and answer the questions at the end of each video correctly. 

The Orientation Video Series should not be rushed through.  It is not necessary that they are completed in one sitting.  Feel free to complete the series during multiple sessions.  To begin viewing the SCSEP Orientation Video Series, Click here.  When finished, you will be notified of your application status via email within 5 business days.

Step 4 : Finalize Enrollment Process  

Once the SCSEP Orientation Video Series is completed successfully, you will be emailed to complete the enrollment process. In the email, we will schedule an 1 hour telephone call to introduce you to the Project Director.

During the telephone call, you and the Project Director will discuss your employment goals, create your Individual Employment Plan (IEP), discuss the location of your first training assignment, and answer any questions that you may have about the program.
